What are the Little White Bugs in South Florida?

January 11, 2025 by Beetle Lawn & Ornamental Fertilization and Pest Control Leave a Comment

Whitefly Control West Palm Beach, Florida

The little white bugs you might find in your Palm Beach County Florida landscaping plants and palm trees are more than likely either Mealybugs or Whiteflies, both of which are treatable by our West Palm Beach lawn and ornamental pest control company.

Mealybugs are tiny, wingless pests that appear as moving white scales on the affected host plant. Where whiteflies look more like tiny moths with wings. It may be hard to distinguish mealybugs from whitefly larvae, or nymphs, before they become mature but a closer look will reveal exactly which pest you are dealing with. Large numbers of tiny white insects clumped around new palm frond shoots or the underside of leaves are more than likely to be whitefly larvae.

Both these nuisance pests feed by sucking out the vital nutrients in ornamental plants and palm trees, which can lead to serious damage and even kill the host plant. They are sometimes well hidden and can attack palm fronds, plant leaves, stems, and more. Whiteflies have many different species, some of which are particularly fond of Ficus plants and palm trees. It is essential to catch these infestations early before they permanently damage your expensive landscaping and trees.

For infestations of whiteflies in Coconut and other palm tree species in Palm Beach County Florida, Arborjet tree injections are currently the best treatment to save your trees. Our locally owned and operated company has trained pesticide professionals that have been treating Jupiter, Wellington, Palm Beach Gardens and West Palm Beach palm trees with Arborjet tree injections for spiraling white flies for decades. And unlike pesticide sprays or soil soaks, Arborjet tree injections put the insecticide inside the palm tree which limits impacting the environment and is safe for you and your pets.

If mealybugs are the problem, you may have a few eco-friendly remedies at your disposal. Mixtures of neem oil, dish soap and water have been known to repel mealy bugs, especially before they develop a hard wax accumulation. Our logo is a lady bug beetle, which is a natural predator of mealybugs and other lawn pests. But for heavily infested areas and persistent problems, it might be wise to call in a professional lawn pest control service.

*It should also be noted that Whiteflies are becoming immune to the natural and chemical pesticide products that lawn fertilization and pest control companies have been using, making us have to try and stay ahead of the game with new and different products recommended by the University of Florida.

100% Satisfaction Guaranteed

The tropical climate of South Florida is tough on your lawn and landscaping, but for over twenty five years our locally owned and operated company has been keeping the residential and commercial lawns of West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter, Wellington and other Palm Beach County, Florida cities lush, green and pest free.

West Palm Beach Crabgrass Weed Control & Prevention

November 15, 2024 by Beetle Lawn & Ornamental Fertilization and Pest Control Leave a Comment

Beetle Lawn & Ornamental Fertilization and Pest Control

Crabgrass is in the grassy weed family and thrives in Palm Beach County because of the year-round warm climate. And to make matters worse, it is extremely difficult to kill adult crabgrass weeds because most herbicides that eradicate it will also harm St. Augustine sod grass and many other South Florida turfgrasses. But you will have good luck preventing crabgrass weeds using the proper pre-emergent herbicide. This product works extremely well on preventing future outbreaks of crabgrass, but unfortunately does not kill existing adult crabgrass weeds. It is usually best to apply pre-emergent herbicides to your West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter and Wellington commercial or residential property lawn in late December to early February.

Pre-emergent Herbicide Products are the Best Prevention for West Palm Beach Crabgrass Weeds

Crabgrass will compete with your St. Augustine sod for nutrients and water, so once again the healthier and thicker your lawn is, the harder it is for crabgrass weeds to take root in the first place. Professional fertilization service and pest control combined with weed control is the best way to maintain a healthy, beautiful lawn in Palm Beach County.

Why not leave your crabgrass weed problems to a professional. Our locally owned and operated company can keep your lawn looking great with complete professional weed control service. We have been treating West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington and Jupiter, Florida residential and commercial lawns for decades and have the experience to get the job done right.

We offer natural, environmentally friendly and pet friendly lawn weed control products as an option to our clients. Our experienced technicians can discuss your concerns and the options available to you.

How to Get Rid of Sandspurs in Florida

November 10, 2024 by Beetle Lawn & Ornamental Fertilization and Pest Control Leave a Comment

Beetle Lawn & Ornamental Fertilization and Pest Control

Sandspurs, also known as sandburs, are a common grassy weed in Palm Beach County with spiked seed pods that can be quite painful to humans and pets when stepped on. These nuisance weeds thrive in the sandy, dry soil of South Florida. Sandspur weeds tend to resemble normal grass in the early stages of development until they sprout their infamous spiked seed pod and are very difficult to remove once they become mature.

A pre-emergent herbicide is the best way to control future sandspur infestations in your West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington or Jupiter lawn. A pre-emergent herbicide will reduce the number of seeds that can grow into future sandspur weeds. In fact you can probably kill two birds with one stone and use the same pre-emergent herbicide on crabgrass because they are both in the same grassy weed family

Pre-emergent Herbicides are the Best Prevention for Sandspur Weeds in South Florida

Using Roundup® will kill just about everything green, so be careful when using this product as it will damage your lawn and ornamental landscaping plants as well.

Sandspur weeds compete with your lawn’s sod grass for nutrients and irrigation, so once again the healthier and thicker your lawn is, the harder it is for sandspurs to take root in the first place. Professional fertilization service and pest control combined with weed control is the best way to maintain a healthy, beautiful lawn in Palm Beach County.

What Grass is Resistant to Sugarcane Mosaic Virus?

November 4, 2024 by Beetle Lawn & Ornamental Fertilization and Pest Control Leave a Comment

Beetle Lawn & Ornamental Fertilization and Pest Control

Unlike most lawn diseases caused by fungi, a viral infection like sugarcane mosaic virus can’t be treated with fungicides or pesticides. Viral lawn diseases can be devastating to Palm Beach County lawns and in extreme cases may kill the entire lawn. This is referred to as LVN or lethal viral necrosis.

The most popular sod grass for West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington, Jupiter and other Palm Beach County, Florida cities is St. Augustine sod and some HOAs and communities in Palm Beach County even require it. Floratam is an extremely popular variety of St. Augustine grass that unfortunately is particularly vulnerable to sugarcane mosaic virus. Bermudagrass and bahiagrass are also susceptible, but to a lessor extent.

Bitterblue and Palmetto are both varieties of St. Augustine grass that are more resistant to sugarcane mosaic virus and the state of Florida even suggests using Palmetto type St. Augustine sod. If St. Augustine sod isn’t a requirement, Zoysiagrass might be a good choice as it does not seem to be susceptible to virus.

How to Get Rid of Whiteflies on Your Palm Beach County Palm Trees?

November 3, 2024 by Beetle Lawn & Ornamental Fertilization and Pest Control Leave a Comment

Professional Spiraling White Fly Control

Spiraling whiteflies or rugose spiraling whiteflies (Aleurodicus rugioperculatus) are an invasive species that were first introduced into South Florida around 2009 and rapidly became a serious problem in Palm Beach County disfiguring and killing many different species of palm trees and ornamental landscaping shrubs in West Palm Beach, Wellington, Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter. Coconut Palm trees and White Bird of Paradise plants were especially hard hit. The spiraling white fly feeds by sucking out nutrients and water from the infected host plant causing major stress and stunted growth.

Rugose spiraling whiteflies also are a major problem because of the mess they create to pools, patios, outdoor furniture and other outside valuables by excreting what is called “honey dew”, which causes the rapid growth of a black mold which then covers everything in the infected area with a hard to remove layer of black soot. Pools beneath trees infected with spiraling white fly can become covered in a milky white “snow” and the honey dew will deplete chlorine and stain the decking. Ants and other pests are also attracted to the honey dew, which can be the start of a whole new problem.

Removing these nuisance pests before they cause too much damage is the answer. It is a lot cheaper to treat spiraling white flies than it is to replace your beautiful trees and shrubs and pressure clean all the black soot off your patios and driveways.

Arborjet Tree Injections are Currently the Best Treatment for Whitefly Infestations on Palm Beach County Palm Trees

Our locally owned and operated company has trained pesticide professionals that have been treating Jupiter, Wellington, Palm Beach Gardens and West Palm Beach palm trees with Arborjet tree injections for spiraling white flies and other pests for decades and have the expertise to get the job done right the first time at a price you can afford. And unlike pesticide sprays or soil soaks, Arborjet tree injections put the insecticide inside the palm tree which limits impacting the environment and is safe for you and your pets.

Who Can Diagnose South Florida Lawn Problems?

November 3, 2024 by Beetle Lawn & Ornamental Fertilization and Pest Control Leave a Comment

Lawn treatment company West Palm Beach, FL

A professional lawn treatment specialist can usually diagnose your South Florida lawn problems by checking for lawn pests, unusual discoloration, fungi and diseases, or even deficient irrigation problems via a simple visual inspection and possibly a soil test. In extreme situations, a soil sample may need to be sent to The University of Florida for further review.

South Florida lawn problems can be caused by a variety of different issues from something as simple as improper irrigation to something as complex as sugarcane mosaic virus, so getting the proper diagnoses can mean the difference between a simple fungicide application to a complete removal and replacement of your sod grass. Lawn pests, drought damage, fertilizer deficiencies and lawn diseases all can cause your lawn to appear to be under attack, but understanding the root cause of your problem early can save you a lot of money down the road. Our Palm Beach County professional lawn treatment technicians have the knowledge to detect the signs of lawn pest problems, lawn diseases other possible lawn problems before they become overwhelming.

  • Does your lawn have repetitive spots covering the turf grass area?
  • Does your lawn have patches of discoloration for no apparent reason?
  • Does your lawn have seem to be covered in baby powder?

Lawn diseases are commonly overlooked because they are easily mistaken with other lawn problems such as chinch bug damage or drought. A lawn treatment professional should be able to catch lawn diseases at an early stage before it becomes too late to repair the damage caused by them.

Is Lawn Pest Control Worth the Money in Palm Beach County?

November 1, 2024 by Beetle Lawn & Ornamental Fertilization and Pest Control Leave a Comment

Beetle Lawn & Ornamental Fertilization and Pest Control

Is professional lawn pest control worth the money in Palm Beach County? It really depends on your situation, but if you are paying for a monthly exterminator then why wouldn’t you want to eliminate the pest control problem before it came into your house in the first place? The best thing about lawn pest control is if when it is done right, it feels like a waste of money because you don’t see the insects or the damage they cause in the first place.

First of all, the ants and spiders that get into your home and cause you problems more than likely came into your home from your yard. When your lawn and ornamental landscaping is free of insects and pests, then there are limited ways for them to get inside where they bother you most.

Secondly, lawn pests cause millions of dollars of damage to sod grasses, landscaping plants and trees each year in Palm Beach County. Just one mature coconut palm tree costs more money to replace than it costs to treat your trees for spiraling whiteflies that can kill them.

When Done Properly, Lawn Pest Control Feels Like a Waste Because You Don’t See the Insects or Damage They Cause

We are a state certified pest control company that has trained pesticide professionals that have been treating West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington and Jupiter, Florida residential and commercial lawns and ornamental landscaping for lawn pests for decades and have the expertise to get the job done right the first time at a price you can afford. Using a licensed professional to control lawn pests will give you peace of mind that the job is being done correctly and ensure superior results.

What is the Best Treatment for a South Florida Lawn?

November 1, 2024 by Beetle Lawn & Ornamental Fertilization and Pest Control Leave a Comment

Beetle Lawn & Ornamental Fertilization and Pest Control

With its tropical climate and plentiful rainfall, South Florida has ideal conditions for growing many things…including a beautiful lawn. But Palm Beach County is also home to many lawn pests and the same conditions that can make your lawn thrive are also ideal for weeds to flourish. So what is the best treatment to keep your lawn lush and green while keeping unwanted weeds and pests from ruining your sod grass?

Tips For a Beautiful Palm Beach County Florida Lawn

  • Pick the Right Sod Grass – Sod grasses including St. Augustine, Zoysia, Bahia, and Bermuda are all popular choices and thrive in Palm Beach County, Florida, but there are many subtle differences in pest tolerance, disease tolerance, drought tolerance and fertilization requirements. And if St. Augustine sod grass is a requirement in your community look into a variety that is resistant to Sugarcane Mosaic Virus like Palmetto type St. Augustine sod.
  • Irrigation – Even though the sunshine state gets plenty of rainfall each year, proper irrigation is an important step in maintaining a healthy South Florida lawn. To encourage strong root growth, it is advised to use plentiful infrequent watering over frequent light watering.
  • Lawn Fertilization – Proper fertilization is crucial to feed your Palm Beach County lawn essential nutrients that may be missing in the sandy soil of South Florida.
  • Soil Testing – The only way to properly understand what nutrients are lacking in your soil is to perform a soil test. Soil tests can also detect diseases that can’t be determined by the naked eye
  • Weed Control – Weeds crowd out the desirable sod grass and can spread seeds that will quickly multiply if left unchecked. A quality pre-emergent herbicide should be applied to prevent weeds from multiplying while post-emergent can be used carefully on existing weeds.
  • Pest Control – Palm Beach County is home to many lawn and landscaping pests that cause millions of dollars in damage a year in damage to sod grasses. Most of these pests can be easily treated, but early detection is essential to limit loss. A professional lawn pest control company can manage any problems too big for you to handle on your own.

In summary, the best treatment for your South Florida lawn is a combination of proper fertilization, weed control and pest control. Combined with proper irrigation, disease management and lawn maintenance, these simple things will give you a beautiful, lush, green lawn that you can enjoy year-round.

Why not leave your lawn treatment problems to a professional. Our locally owned and operated company can keep your lawn looking great with complete professional lawn fertilization and pest control service. We have been treating West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington and Jupiter, Florida residential and commercial lawns for decades and have the experience to get the job done right.
